Las Vegas Elvis Impersonator believes there's much more to the legend than meets the eye. Vegas entertainer and performer Jimmi Ellis who's been singing Elvis music now for over 35 years says "There are a lot of great look a likes and some even have his moves down pat but when it comes to vocals they fall short."

This August 16th will mark 35 years since the King Of Rock & Roll passed away at his Graceland mansion in Memphis TN. Like every year thousands of fans from all over the world will par-take in the annual candlelight vigil that's held on the grounds of Elvis Presley. This year they expect more Elvis fans as well as Las Vegas Elvis impersonators who'll be there to perform in the largest officially sanctioned Elvis Presley Tribute artists contest hosted by Elvis Presley Enterprises.

Jimmi's mother first recalled him singing Elvis songs and shaking his hips like the King of Rock at around age 6. Now 45 Jimmi performs his tribute to Elvis in the entertainment capital of the world Las Vegas. With lots of Elvi's, as referred to by some, to choose from Jimmi proudly says he's won contest against other Elvis Impersonator Las Vegas with just his vocals.

Recently the Clarion Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas hosted a 6 month long Elvis tribute artist contest. Most of the Elvis Impersonator in Las Vegas prefer to be referred to as tribute artist. There were young early Elvis performers along with the well known Elvis' in jumpsuits.

During the September contest Jimmi stunned the audience, as well as himself, when he showed up for the contest not dressed in his usual Elvis attire and won the contest. "Honestly I was completely shocked because there was some great talent that night. Actually I felt bad for the guys who had their hair, sideburns and jumpsuits on because I know how much work goes into the Elvis persona."

Jimmi says due to his grand daughter having a major surgery earlier that same day he did not believe he was up for competing in the contest. At the last minute he decided to go and cheer the other guys on and visit with friends. While there the host of the show told Jimmi he had a great voice and should just do the contest anyway and without the costume and props. "That's what I did, I just gave it my all with my voice and I won the thing and was shocked!"

In a city full of Elvis Presley's, it seems they're on every corner, it's still somewhat baffling that after nearly 35 years Elvis Presley is still playing a dominant role in the entertainment capital of the world and around the world. Elvis Presley's legacy continues on despite those who thought his flame would have long ago went dim.
